Stearman Press SP455 4x5 developing tank system

Product Description

This new we offer an original 5x4 inch developing system, made in the USA, by Stearman Press. A new name for us but a great product, nevertheless. It loads like a film holder (double dark slide). Just load in a darkroom or changing bag, then process in daylight.

It lets you process up to four sheets of 4x5 film at a time and uses only 16 oz (475ml) of solution during processing. It's daylight safe and fills and drains very quickly. It uses Inversion agitation, Stand development or anything in-between.

The tank includes built-in liquid level indicators, and you can easily use a thermometer during processing. It's made from rugged ABS plastic and features an Industry standard O-ring seal.

"In my opinion, the Stearman Press SP445 is the easiest system for developing 4x5 inch sheet film. Some people have, in the past, complained about the tank leaking but, if the instructions are followed closely (squeeze the tank slightly before screwing on the fill/vent cap) it is totally watertight. Once you get the hang of loading the tank, it’s as easy as developing roll film. I’m also going to be buying the 645 system which allows the developing of 6 sheets at a time rather than 4."

"A good product. Purchased to facilitate 5x4 processing where I have no light tight room. It’s a little tricky loading the film into the tank in a traditional changing bag, but I imagine practice will help. The tank is slightly unstable when sitting on a work top, but development even and no leaks. Emptying the tank after each cycle is slower than a 120 Patterson tank but I imagine has negligible effect on development. Overall, I feel I made the right choice in buying this product"

"A bit hard to get the lid to seal. My best tip is to not to add too much liquid. There needs to be some air left in the "Fill" hole after you have squeezed the sides. Also check inside the tank for bits of plastics that stick out, remains of the injection process. Easy enough to sand them down or cut them off with a knife."
