Product Description
The Black Edition is Interid's premium 4x5 camera made primarily from high-quality 3D printed parts, giving it a sleek, modern look. As with all Intrepid Cameras, it is super compact, lightweight and straightforward to use while offering a vast range of advanced features.
The latest generation (introduced September 2022) is their most refined and versatile. Featuring precise zeroing guides, a full range of movements, removable bellows and reinforced front standard controls with lockable zeroing stops.
Features
The front standard has a full range of independently controlled rise/fall, tilt and swing movements. There are also guides to give you complete precision, plus zeroing stops for accuracy.
The aluminium base and rear-controlled linear focus allow for consistent pin-sharp focusing and increased stability, no matter the conditions or lens size.
The bellows are also removable, so they can be easily changed or switched to use their new (soon-to-be-released) bag bellows.
The rear standard rotates 360? for fast shifting between landscape and portrait and has complete tilt/swing movements. It also has a universal Graflok back for use with various film backs.
The ground glass is super bright with a half-inch grid, and we have an additional fresnel that can be fitted, particularly useful with wide-angle lenses.
When not in use, the camera can be folded flat, making it easy to transport.
As with all Intrepid Cameras, versatility is key, the universal Graflok back means you can mount a whole range of roll film adapters (from 6x6 to 6x17), Polaroid/instant film backs and of course the Intrepid Enlarger.
The ideal companion for any situation from the studio to a mountainside, and at just 1 kg you will barely notice the weight.
Large format lenses are interchangeable across different camera brands; to mount them, you first need to attach them to your camera's right lens board. The Intrepid 4x5 takes 96mm x 99mm lens boards, or you can use most Linhof / Technika style boards as they are the same size.
There aren't any modern manufacturers of large format lenses, but thankfully, there is an extensive secondhand market, especially when it comes to 4x5 lenses. Across the leading brands - Nikkor, Fuji, Schneider and Rodenstock - you will find excellent quality lenses that are often very affordable. Getting a lens from a dedicated camera store can be the best option for ensuring what you're getting is in top working order. However, you can also get some fantastic deals on eBay, be sure to check the condition first and ask for extra pictures if you are unsure.
The Intrepid 4x5 accepts focal lengths from 75mm-300mm, but if you start out with 4x5, we recommend getting yourself a 150mm lens at first. Equivalent to a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera and considered the 'standard focal length', it is roughly what the human eye sees.
The other main thing to consider with lenses is the shutter. You will see our lens boards come in three sizes - Copal 0, 1, and 3. Corresponding with the size of the shutter your lens has. Copal is the most common type of shutter, and most other shutter types (Seiko and Compur) come in these three standardised sizes.
Lens board size: 96mm x 99mm (available separately).
