Weight is 270 grams per square metre.

Any darkroom, whether permanent or temporary, needs to be 'blacked-out'. You can do this cheaply by using lightproof heavy gauge plastic material. This plastic material is like a three-ply 'bin-liner' type.

However, our cotton/polyester material that we sell as an alternative has proved extremely popular. This white material from the USA has the advantage over black plastic in that it lasts longer, can be used as a liner to existing curtains, or can be made into long separate curtains or blinds. In our own darkroom, we have used the fabric as a liner to Roman blinds and over the door, we roll it up and tie it with tape.

The material is white on one side and cream on the other. We suggest you use with white facing into the room and the rubberised cream side facing the window. It fixes quickly and easily to window surrounds using 2-part Velcro - one-half sewn onto the material the other stuck to the wall or frame.

"This black out solution worked excellently in my darkroom, a converted shed, especially around the door which was leaking light badly. I used self adhesive velcro on the rubberised side, and it is sticking well over several uses. "

"This material is not 100% opaque as a single ply sheet - double up for best results. I used an old cardboard fridge box to roughly block the light from my window. The blackout sheet was then used to block any chinks of light and provide the cosmetic neatness afforded by this material."

"This material is not quite blackout material, this should be advertised as such. It does quite well but needs to be doubled up to actually black out light."

"Thank you for your review, Samuel. The material is a purpose-made blackout fabric and manufacturer as such. In conditions where windows face south or south-west, you can find extremely bright sun will breach most thin blackout materials (even plastics).In circumstances like this, we recommend that you use a double layer of material as you have suggested in your write up. The alternative is that you have to use an ultra thick material which then creates problems with hnaging and sewing due to the increased weight. Rodney Bates - Sales Director February, 2020"
