The Yashica FX-D 300 brings the feel of analogue photography into a modern digital camera. Inspired by Yashica's classic FX series, it combines retro styling, tactile controls and a working film advance lever with a 50MP digital sensor, built-in film simulations and 4K video.
At its heart is a 50MP 1/1.56-inch CMOS sensor paired with a bright 24mm-equivalent f/1.8 lens. A crop-to-zoom system gives you additional framing options, while 3-axis optical image stabilisation helps keep handheld photographs steady. The 2.8-inch vari-angle LCD can rotate through 180°, making it equally useful for traditional photography and more creative shooting angles.
The FX-D 300 is an interesting bridge between film and digital photography. Instead of simply adding retro filters to a conventional compact camera, Yashica has built the film experience into the way you shoot. In Film Simulation Mode, you wind the advance lever between frames, encouraging a slower and more considered approach, while Digital Mode is there when you just want to shoot quickly.
Choose between six distinctive Yashica film-inspired looks: Ruby 60s, Sapphire 70s, Yashica 400, Golden 80s, Mono 400 and B&W 400. Image controls let you further personalise the look by adjusting settings such as grain, white balance shift, saturation, contrast, sharpness and hue.
Your preferred settings can be saved as custom recipes, making it easy to return to a favourite look without rebuilding it each time.
Switch to Film Simulation Mode and the familiar film advance lever becomes part of the shooting process. After taking a photograph, fully wind the lever before the next frame can be captured. It is a small detail, but one that deliberately slows the process down and brings some of the rhythm of shooting film into a digital camera.
When speed matters, simply use Digital Mode for a more conventional digital shooting experience without winding between photographs.
The 1/1.56-inch CMOS sensor offers up to 50MP resolution, while the fixed 5.68mm lens gives a 24mm full-frame equivalent field of view with a bright f/1.8 aperture. Crop modes provide additional framing options at reduced resolutions, while 2.5x digital zoom is available in compatible digital shooting modes.
Built-in 3-axis optical image stabilisation helps reduce the effects of camera movement when shooting handheld, making the FX-D 300 more practical for everyday photography and lower-light situations.
The 2.8-inch 4:3 LCD has a 640 x 480 resolution and can rotate from 0 to 180°, giving you flexibility when composing from high, low or front-facing positions.
As well as still photography, the FX-D 300 can record video at up to 4K 30fps. It also supports 2.7K up to 60fps, Full HD up to 120fps and HD recording up to 120fps.
Digital zoom and crop-to-zoom functions are disabled when using Film Simulation Mode.
