Kodak Eastman Professional Tri-X 320 Black & White Sheet Film

Kodak Eastman Professional Tri-X 320 is a high-speed panchromatic black and white sheet film designed for large format photographers who want beautiful tonal detail, excellent sharpness and plenty of control over their negatives. With a nominal sensitivity of ISO 320, it is particularly well suited to portraits, architecture, studio photography and other subjects where carefully controlled lighting makes all the difference.

Tri-X 320 combines fine grain and high resolving power with smooth tonal gradations and excellent highlight separation. Its wide exposure latitude gives you flexibility when exposing challenging scenes, while its distinctive black and white character makes it a rewarding choice for both traditional darkroom printing and film scanning.

Why We Like It

Tri-X 320 is a lovely film for large format portraiture. We particularly like the way it handles subtle changes in tone, from detailed shadows through to bright highlights. Its ISO 320 speed is also useful when working with studio flash or available light, giving you more flexibility than a slower sheet film.

Ideal For

  • Large format portrait photography
  • Studio and commercial photography
  • Architecture and interiors
  • Still life and fine art photography
  • Flash and controlled lighting setups
  • Outdoor photography in soft or low-contrast light
  • Traditional black and white darkroom printing

Smooth Tones and Beautiful Highlights

Tri-X 320 is known for its smooth tonal gradations and brilliant highlights. It captures subtle transitions between light and dark, making it especially appealing for portraits, carefully lit studio subjects and scenes where delicate tonal detail matters.

Fine Grain and Excellent Sharpness

Its fine grain structure, high sharpness and resolving power help capture crisp detail across the large negative. The results are well suited to detailed scanning and photographic enlargements, while retaining the distinctive character of traditional black and white film.

Flexible ISO 320 Speed

With a nominal sensitivity of ISO 320/26deg., this film offers a useful balance of speed and image quality. It performs particularly well with controlled interior lighting, studio flash and soft outdoor light, giving large format photographers flexibility when choosing shutter speeds and apertures.

Wide Exposure Latitude

Tri-X 320 offers wide exposure latitude, making it easier to work with subjects that contain a range of light and dark tones. Exposure and development can be adjusted to suit your subject and preferred printing or scanning workflow.

Suitable for Retouching

The film features a robust ESTAR base approximately 0.18mm thick and can be retouched on either the base or emulsion side. This provides additional flexibility for photographers working with traditional negative retouching techniques.

Manufactured by Eastman Kodak
