HARMAN Phoenix 125 is a characterful colour negative film with punchy contrast, vibrant colours and strong, visible grain. Building on the distinctive look of the original Phoenix 200, its ISO 125 speed reflects how photographers were actually choosing to expose the film, making it particularly well suited to good, consistent light.
Phoenix 125 isn't designed to give perfectly predictable, clinical results. Its bold colour, noticeable grain and occasional halation are all part of the experience, producing photographs with an unmistakably analogue character that can vary depending on exposure, lighting, scanning and processing.
Phoenix 125 is for photographers who enjoy a little unpredictability. We love its strong grain, punchy contrast and distinctive colour palette, especially when the light is good. It doesn't try to look like every other colour film, and that's exactly what makes it interesting.
Phoenix 125 has a box speed of ISO 125/22° and performs best in good, consistent lighting. Accurate exposure is important with this film, as significant overexposure or underexposure can quickly affect shadow and highlight detail. HARMAN recommends metering for the mid-tones to get the best balance across the image.
Expect vibrant colours, high contrast and a clearly visible grain structure. The way Phoenix 125 renders colour can also vary depending on the scanner and scanning settings used, giving photographers plenty of room to experiment with the final look.
In brighter conditions, particularly when photographing towards strong light sources, Phoenix 125 can produce visible halation around highlights. Its negatives also have their own distinctive appearance, while occasional coating variations may contribute additional character to individual frames.
Phoenix 125 is designed for standard C-41 colour negative processing. HARMAN also encourages photographers to experiment with alternative processes such as E-6 or ECN-2, although these should be considered experimental rather than the standard processing method. Always check with your lab before requesting non-standard processing.
Phoenix 125 is intentionally characterful and results can vary with exposure, lighting, processing and scanning. This variability is part of the film's distinctive aesthetic.
