The Filmomat PhotoPlug is a compact optical shutter-speed tester for analogue cameras. Used with the free Shutter-Speed app, it turns your smartphone into a simple tool for checking whether your camera’s shutter speeds are firing accurately.

The PhotoPlug is a small light-sensitive sensor that connects to your phone through the headphone jack. To test a shutter, open the camera back, point the camera towards a bright, non-flickering light source and position the PhotoPlug behind the shutter. When the shutter fires, the sensor detects the light pulse and the app measures the time between opening and closing.

Simple Smartphone Testing

The PhotoPlug works with the Shutter-Speed app, available for iOS and Android devices. The app shows a graph with one peak when the shutter opens and another when it closes, then calculates the shutter speed from the time between them.

Measuring around 2cm long, the PhotoPlug is extremely portable and does not require batteries. It is easy to keep with your camera kit, ready for checking shutter speeds whenever needed.

Adapter Required

Please note that the PhotoPlug uses a headphone jack connection. If your phone does not have a headphone jack, you can use the official USB-to-jack adapters from Apple, Samsung or similar (sold separately). The adapter must support microphone input, as cheap audio-only adapters may not work with the PhotoPlug.
