Manfrotto (formerly Lastolite) background papers are very good value for money and available in a range of colours. Many photographers like using paper backgrounds because it enables them to start off a portrait shoot with a 'clean sheet of paper', crease free and mark free. Once the paper is marked, it can be torn off, (hopefully) re-used and eventually recycled.

Background papers tend to reflect light better than some backgrounds made from curtain material, which tends to be an advantage particularly with white backgrounds. However, storing a roll of background paper (or manoeuvring it in and out of rooms) can be tricky - but for the price and the flexibility it gives you, it is an excellent buy!
